Here I am, at work, and I get a random IM on AIM:

forktonguedtrout: Pope Benedict? Why won’t you return my letters?!

I respond wittily, as anyone would. A long conversation ensues, one that is mostly a joke. At the end, we realize that we’ve both gotten played out by something else. But what is it?
Here is the catch: When I responded to his answer, I said “Because I couldn’t understand them.”, but apparently, this bug/exploit responds with a random sentence, and the other guy got a question from me asking if he wanted to circumnavigate the globe.
Clever. Two random conversation starters, two confused users.
What’s even weirder?
Two days ago, I got another message, over AIM.

paralytictrout: Are you going to die?

Hmmm… a recurring trout theme. The person that got involved in this one chat wasn’t as friendly as “forktonguedtrout”, so I assumed it was a bad prank… but after this second one, I’m curious and alert. I’m guessing it’s some sort of bot for shits and giggles, because I fail to see how it can get more malicious than that. But still…
TROUT ALERT IS ON! Beware of AIM messages from anything that ends on trout, and understand that the other person is probably confused.
I recommend playing along, and having a laugh. That’s what I did today, and it was great. Hell, I even uploaded the chat transcript so you can have a laugh. Click here to see it! (No offense intended to anyone by the closing statement).

That is all.
